FORENSIC tests led police to the criminal responsible for a £400 theft from a car.

Gary John Ryan managed to get into the vehicle which was parked in Ritchie Humphreys Drive, Hartlepool, and stole clothing, two lighters, some tools and a torch.

Prosecuting, Christopher Rose told Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court that police were called and scenes of crime experts found clues to link the offence to 34-year-old Ryan.

The defendant, of Everett Street, Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to theft from a vehicle between june 27 and 28.

Mitigating, John Relton said: “He’s going through a difficult period and he’s not in the best of health which you can tell from his appearance.

“He’s just been released from a custodial sentence and his home has been abused by others while in his absence.

“There’s a lot going on in his life in general.”

Chairman of the bench Doreen Goode fined him £110, ordered him to pay £70 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
