THE funeral of a much-loved dad who died after being assaulted in Hartlepool is to be held next week.

Grieving family and friends of town man Mark Dixon will gather at St Laurence Church, in Pittington, County Durham, for the service at 10.30am on Wednesday, November 19.

The funeral will be followed by internment at Pittington Cemetery.

Mark, 32, was assaulted in Victoria Road, Hartlepool, close to its junction with York Road, just after 4am on October 5.

The incident left Mark with serious head injuries and he was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where died around a week later on October 11.

Popular Mark’s death sent shockwaves around the town and dozens of people left floral tributes at the scene for weeks after the tragedy.

Earlier this month, police and family members released a cherished family photograph in a bid to gather further information about the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The touching picture – titled ‘Me and My Princess’ – shows much-loved Mark Dixon soundly sleeping with his little five-year-old daughter Ella.
