Hartlepool attack victim dies in hospital

A DAD has died almost a week after being attacked in Hartlepool town centre.

The victim, named locally as 32-year-old Mark Dixon, was attacked in Victoria Road, close to its junction with York Road, on Sunday, October 5, at 4am.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where police said he died last night.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of assault and has since been bailed.

A post mortem examination will be held to establish the cause of death.

Cleveland Police said inquiries are ongoing and have set up a special incident number for people with any information.
