A Hartlepool traffic route has been re-opened after the death of acyclist in a crash this evening.

The A689 was sealed off in both directions for three hours after a fatal collision between a cyclist and a car on the eastbound carriageway of the route, at the Greatham turn off.

The male cyclist - whose age and identity has not yet been released - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have launched efforts to locate his family.

A Cleveland Police spokesman confirmed that the road was re-opened at 8.30pm today.

A number of people have been spoken to who were in the area at the time and police are appealing for any other witnesses to contact them at Cleveland Police on 101.
