THE headteacher of Hartlepool’s biggest Catholic school has written to the school where teacher Ann Maguire was fatally stabbed.

English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College said prayers for Mrs Maguire, 61, in assembly this morning.

Headteacher Michael Lee said: “We said prayers for Ann Maguire and for the school community at Corpus Christi.

“We have some connection with the school. I have written to the head of the school expressing our condolences.”

Speaking of his shock at the manner of Mrs Maguire’s death, Mr Lee added: “It is just a horrifying and tragic incident.

“Fortunately, something like this is very rare in schools, but it is such a tragedy for somebody to go to work on a morning and not make it home in the evening.

“Especially for someone who dedicated their whole life to teaching at one particular school.”
