A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a vehicle was damaged on a residential street.

Police were first seen in Weston View, Peterlee, on Saturday night and officers stayed in the street throughout the weekend.

Detectives remained tight-lipped over the weekend as to what took place.

But Durham Police have this morning confirmed a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

A Durham Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to an address in Weston View, Peterlee, at just after 8.30pm on Saturday following reports of a suspected arson to a vehicle.

“The fire service was also in attendance.”

One resident in the street spoke to the Mail over the weekend, saying: “There were a number of police cars in the street and the lights were flashing all night.”
