TWO men who were seen “acting suspiciously” near Hartlepool Power Station were searched by police.

Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) officers received information about the actions of the pair near to the power station, at Seal Sands on the outskirts of Hartlepool.

The men were stopped and searched and a mobile phone belonging to one of the men was confiscated as part of the police investigation.

But inquiries found that the men posed no threat to the power station or the public and as a result they were not arrested and the case has been closed.

The mobile phone is to be sent back to the owner.

A spokeswoman for the CNC said: “Civil Nuclear Constabulary officers received information about two men acting suspiciously adjacent to Hartlepool Power Station on July 14.

“The officers located the men and used powers of stop and search to ascertain that they posed no threat to the power station or the public.

“As a result of the search a phone was seized for further examination.

“The men were not arrested and the investigation has now been completed with no further action required.

“Steps are being taken by the CNC to repatriate the phone with its owner.”
