Investigation launched by Hartlepool police after man taken to hospital with head injuries

A MAN was taken to hospital with head injuries after allegedly being assaulted.

Emergency services were called to Hereford Street, in the Belle Vue area of Hartlepool, to reports that a 33-year-old man had been attacked in the street following an altercation.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and the alleged victim was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

Officers attended the incident and arrested a 31–year–old man in connection with the incident.

A section of the road was cordoned off, while investigations were carried out.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “We are investigating an allegation of an assault on a 33–year–old man in Hereford Street at around 9.10pm on Monday, June 17.

“He is currently in James Cook University Hospital receiving treatment for head injuries.”

She added: “A 31–year–old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call to the incident at 9.17pm and got there at 9.24pm.

“A male patient was taken to hospital.”
