POLICE and fire officers have launched an investigation into a blaze at a council-run tourist attraction.
Arsonists are believed to have forced entry into a small brick building on the grounds of Hartlepool Maritime Experience, off Marina Way, opposite Asda.
Once inside the building they set fire to some canvas which was being stored inside.
Two engines from Stranton Fire Station went to the incident at 6pm yesterday. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used a water jet to extinguish the flames.
A spokesman for the fire brigade said: “The property was fully smoke logged and the items inside were destroyed by fire. Fire brigade and police officers are investigating.”
