A MAN has appeared in court accused of causing a fire at a house with intent to endanger life.

Arron Rooney was brought before Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court in custody charged with committing arson at a property in Firby Close, West View, intending to cause damage and to endanger lives on Sunday, June 8.

The charge reads that the property belongs to Elizabeth and Peter Jenkins.

The 22-year-old, who was represented by town solicitor David Smith, did not enter any pleas to the charge.

Chairman of the bench Joan Fenwick remanded Rooney, of Firby Close, Hartlepool, in custody and sent the case to be dealt with at Teesside Crown Court.

The defendant will appear there on June 23.
