DETECTIVES have arrested a man in connection with an attack in Hartlepool town centre which left a dad fighting for his life.
Police working on the probe into the assault in Victoria Road in the early hours of Sunday morning have arrested a 28-year-old Hartlepool man.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault by officers last night and was taken to Hartlepool Police Station, in Avenue Road, where he remains in custody.
It comes as attack victim, named locally as town dad Mark Dixon, continues to fight for survival in the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of assault. He is still in custody at Hartlepool Police Station.”
The victim was attacked in Victoria Road, close to its junction with York Road, in Hartlepool, at around 4am on the morning of Sunday, October 5.
He received head injuries in the incident.
