A MAN was arrested following a police chase through numerous Hartlepool streets.

At around 8.20pm on Tuesday a driver failed to stop his car when he was asked to pull over by police in the town’s Burbank Street.

Officers began an initial investigation and at around 10.15pm a grey Volkswagen Polo was spotted in Caledonian Road.

A chase began, and the police helicopter was scrambled to help officers on the ground.

The car was abandoned near to Lancaster Court.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failure to stop a motorvehicle and was in police custody awaiting questioning.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “At around 8.20pm on Tuesday a driver failed to stop a vehicle when requested by an officer on Burbank Street in Hartlepool.

“Officers began an initial investigation and at around 10.15pm a grey Volkswagen Polo was sighted on Caledonian Road and a pursuit began.”
