A MAN was stabbed as he was walking alone in Hartlepool in broad daylight.

The 40-year-old, from the town, was walking at the side of the A689, Belle Vue Way, when he was attacked at 3pm yesterday.

He was close to the pelican crossing opposite the Tesco superstore when he was approached from behind by two men.

The first was white, in his early 20s, of slim build, with cropped fair hair and wearing a red Adidas top, blue jeans and white trainers.

The second was also white and in his early 20s, slim with short brown hair and wearing a dark blue jogging suit.

One of the men shouted to the victim who turned around to face his attackers.

Upon turning around, the male in the red Adidas top stabbed the victim in his lower torso before the injured man ran away towards Screwfix Direct.

He received treatment at hospital before being released.

Due to the time of day and location of the incident police believe a number of people may have witnessed it.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact DC Rob Griffiths, Major Crime Team on 101, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
