MANY of the partygoers who witnessed the brutal slaying of Mark Denton have received counselling from Victim Support workers.
Horrific details of what happened at the New Year’s Eve house party in Hutton Avenue were read out in detail throughout the trial at Teesside Crown Court.
Some revellers who saw the murder took to the witness box to describe what they saw.
Victim Support has been on hand throughout the trial to offer advice to the witnesses, and staff will continue counselling anyone who needs it now the trial has finished.
A statement said: “Victim Support has been providing support to Witnesses at the Mark Denton murder trial.
Lorna Hilton, Victim Services Officer, and a team of volunteers from both Victim Support and the Witness Service have been providing support to witnesses both before and during the trial.
She said: “The criminal justice system can be confusing and giving evidence in court can be an intimidating experience.
“Victim Support and Witness Service volunteers play a vital role in supporting and reassuring victims and witnesses by supporting them before the trial, explaining court procedures and being present at trials.
“Victim Support volunteers will then offer support after court for as long as the victim or witness needs it.”
