The man remained in hospital on Wednesday morning – two days after vehicles pulled up into the quiet close of Brackendale Court, in Station Town near Wingate, and opened fire.
Police say the man was shot a number of times in the lower body as he was standing in the garden around 2.30pm on and the vehicles sped away from the scene.
Police have said that initial investigations lead them to believe that this was a planned and targeted attack.
Officers are continuing their probe and anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact them on 101.
