Men in court after police probe petrol thefts

TWO men were due to appear before magistrates this morning in connection with a spate of petrol and diesel thefts from vehicles.

Residents from the Cumbrian Way area of Peterlee woke to find diesel and petrol 
had been stolen from their cars and vans on Friday morning.

Police say seven vehicles were targeted in the area, mainly around Tarn Close.

Two men in their early 20s and from Peterlee were arrested in connection with the alleged offences and charged with nine counts of theft from a motorvehicle.

The pair were kept in custody overnight and were due to appear at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court today.
