A MAN who slashed himself in front of horrified shoppers in a supermarket did not suffer serious injuries and the police have confirmed no further action will be taken.

Police officers were called to Asda, in Marina Way, Hartlepool, after receiving reports of a man self-harming in the store. He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, and police yesterday confirmed he did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman also confirmed that no further investigations will be made into the matter.

Shoppers told of their horror after the incident at around 4pm on Wednesday. Pools of blood could be seen on the shop floor as CID officers quickly cordoned the area off.
