Organisers of Hartlepool’s Miles for Men race have slammed mindless vandals who wrecked toilets during the event.
Hundreds of fundraisers took part in the fourth annual 5k charity race at the Sports Domes, in Seaton Carew, on Sunday to raise money for cancer research.
But the day was marred after it emerged someone had vandalised a men’s toilets by smashing hand dryers off the wall, breaking the toilets and ripping pipes off the wall.
The charity has offered to pay for the damage out of their funds which would otherwise go to helping cancer sufferers.
Miles for Men spokesman Kevin Hill said: “We won’t tolerate it. If we do find out who has done the damage they will be reported to police for criminal damage.
“What makes me mad is we do this to help local people and families who have got cancer and people go and try and jeopardise it by doing something like this.”
