A PENSIONER had a large amount of cash and sentimental items stolen as she shopped in a Hartlepool supermarket.

Police are now appealing for information after a woman in her 70s had her bag taken from her trolley at Morrisons, in the town.

The victim had withdrawn the money from the cashpoint at store, in Clarence Road, and put it in a purse in her handbag which she then put on the hook on her trolley.

But when she came to pay for her shopping she noticed the black leather bag, around 30cm by 30cm in size with a magnetic clasp, had been removed from under her shopping bag. There were also items of sentimental value inside the bag including a Clinton Cards diary with her family contact number and addresses inside. The theft took place at around 10am last Friday, September 27.
