A PERVERT who downloaded child pornography from the internet has walked free from court.

Christopher White, 43, ogled 98 sick images of youngsters on his computer.

Police found he had downloaded the material after a search of his house back in December 2009.

White was spared jail when he appeared at Teesside Crown Court to be sentenced yesterday.

A judge said sending him to prison would do little good, and ordered him to get professional treatment in the community.

White, unemployed, previously pleaded guilty to 16 charges of making indecent images of children and one of possession relating to 82 images.

Christine Egerton, prosecuting, said: “This came to light when his house was searched on December 16 2009 and police seized his computer.

“They analysed his computer and found he had downloaded 98 images in total.

“From the analysis of the computer it was also obvious to the police that the defendant had tried to access files with details which would indicate a pornographic content.”

Charlotte Eastwood, mitigating, said: “The majority of the images are at level one with a few at level two, none at level five and I would submit, low amounts at levels three and four. He is thoroughly ashamed of himself, and wants to put things right.”

White, of Maxwell Road, Hartlepool, was made the subject of a two-year community order with probation supervision and will have to attend a sex offender’s treatment programme.

He was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order which prevents him having unsupervised contact with anyone under 18, or using any device with internet access.

Judge Howard Crowson said: “These sorts of offences of course are sometimes said to perpetuate the type of unpleasant trade in images that so offends the public.

“I could imprison you but it would be for a relatively short period of time.

“If I was to do that I feel there would be little or no opportunity to assist with your management of any risk that you might pose in the future.”
