Phone box victim ‘seriously injured’

A GANG attack has left a man with “serious injuries” after he was badly beaten in a phone box.

Police say the 36-year-old was set upon by three men in Wynyard Road, opposite the Eskdale Road junction in Hartlepool.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A Hartlepool man suffered serious injuries after an alleged assault inside a phone box in the town last week.

“Three men are believed to have got out of a silver 4x4, assaulted the 36-year-old victim, then got back into this car and driven away towards Kilmarnock Road.”

The incident is said to have taken place at around 11.50am on Friday, January 6.

One of the men is described as being of large build, and all were wearing hooded tops.

The victim was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, where his condition is described as comfortable.

Investigations are ongoing and police would like to hear from anyone with information who has not yet spoken to an officer.
