Police are appealing for information after a pensioner driving a mobility scooter suffered serious head injuries in a road crash with a car.

The collision took place between a Vauxhall Insignia and a mobility scooter driven by a 73-year-old man on the junctions of Windsor Road and Macnay Street, in Saltburn, at about 4.50pm on Thursday.

The mobility scooter driver is currently detained at James Cook University Hospital with serious head injuries.

Any witnesses to the collision who have not already spoken to police are asked to contact PC Sharon Smith from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting event number 158802.
