POLICE say a substantial amount of cash was stolen when two men robbed a woman behind a Hartlepool shopping parade.

One of the robbers wore a balaclava as they approached the 37-year-old victim, who is said to have been left shaken by the incident.

She also received minor injuries during the incident but did not require hospital treatment.

It happened just before 3pm on Friday afternoon in the car park behind St Patrick’s shops in Owton Manor Lane, Hartlepool.

Detective Inspector Alan Todd, who is leading the investigation, said: “Fortunately the lady was not seriously hurt during the incident, however she was clearly shaken up by what has happened.

“We are treating this as an isolated incident and we are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything around the time of the robbery to contact us.”

Inquiries into the robbery are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
