POLICE have launched an investigation after the body of a man was discovered at a town centre address.
Officers were called to a house in Alderson Street, in the St Paul’s Road area of Hartlepool, at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the property was taped off as police guarded the door while a forensics team carried out an investigation.
The dead man has not yet been named, but neighbours said he was in his 30s and had lived in the property for about a year with a woman believed to be his girlfriend.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to an address on Alderson Street in Hartlepool shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday.
“A male was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.”
One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I don’t really know anyone in this street now, I’ve lived here since 1988 but there has been a lot of changes in that time and everyone just keeps themselves to themselves.
“I used to see a lad in his 30s coming and going from the house, but never really had anything to do with him.”
Another neighbour who wished to remain anonymous said they had saw the man from the house out walking in the street on Tuesday and were shocked by the news of a death.
He said: “It’s a shock to hear the young lad has died, I saw him yesterday and he didn’t look very well.
“He used to be up and down the street walking his dog quite a bit but I didn’t know him to talk to.
“Lots of young people used to come and go from that particular house, and it’s not unusual for the police to be there.”
