POLICE are hunting the driver of a van that has rammed a police vehicle, causing injuries to officers before making off.
A dramatic police chase took place in the Dyke House area on Saturday morning after a white Vauxhall Astra van was pulled over by officers in a routine check.
But the van sped off, with police giving chase, in the drama, which unfolded around 10.30am.
The Cleveland Police helicopter and vehicles from the force’s road policing unit were quickly on scene but by 11.30am, the vehicle had still not been found.
Officers from the police car which initially pulled over the van are said to have suffered minor injuries after cornering the van before it reversed and rammed into their patrol car.
Inspector Ashley Harvey, of Cleveland Police, said: “We had a short chase involving a police vehicle and a car in the Dyke House area.
“The vehicle made off from police.
“Unfortunately it has been in a collision with the police vehicle and driven off.
“There were minor injuries to the officers, who are on scene with a supervisor, discussing what happened.”
He said the incident began near Powlett Road, and the chase took place around the Easington Road, Raby Gardens and Milbank Road area, adding: “Towards the end of the pursuit, the vehicle reversed into the police vehicle, rammed it and drove off.
The van was last seen heading towards the marina.
Anyone who sees the vehicle is urged to call police on 101, quoting reference 87217.
