STAFF were left shaken after a daylight knifepoint robbery at a popular bakers.
Greggs, on the roundabout at Easington Road and Powlett Road, in Hartlepool, was targeted by a raider yesterday afternoon.
Police were called after reports a man had entered the store brandishing a knife, demanding staff open the till and hand over money.
The suspect then fled the shop.
Officers investigating the case confirmed a quantity of cash was stolen.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been released on bail without charge.
The incident happened at around 3.10pm yesterday.
A police van was parked outside and a sign on the door of the store informed customers the store was temporarily closed yesterday afternoon while officers carried out their investigations.
Inspector Darren Birkett, of Cleveland Police, said: “It must have been a terrifying experience for the staff inside the store at the time.
“Thankfully these type of incidents are extremely rare, especially in broad daylight.”
