POLICE have taken statements from staff at a town radio station after complaints were made about the conduct of a mayor and senior councillors.
A complaint was made to Cleveland Police regarding conversations made between staff at Radio Hartlepool and Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher, the ceremonial mayor, along with Ray Martin-Wells and Carl Richardson.
After a complaint was made to police at the end of September, all three have denied any wrongdoing and are yet to be spoken to by police.
But officers were at the radio station’s York Road base earlier this week to gather more information about the situation.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “We have spoken with representatives from Radio Hartlepool who have provided information expressing their concern over the recent dealings between Radio Hartlepool and Hartlepool Borough Council regarding discussions about advertising between the two organisations.”
Management at Radio Hartlepool issued a statement which coincided with the police being called, and have declined to make further comment.
