POLICE are appealing for information after a war memorial clock was deliberately damaged in a village park.

Peterlee Police are investigating after the plastic cover of the clock, in the Memorial Park in Horden’s Sunderland Road, was smashed.

Police say it would appear that the cover was smashed using a golf ball, which remained lodged in the clock face.

It is believed that the damage happened sometime between 8am on Saturday, July 5 and 10am on Sunday, July 6.

The clock time stopped at 2, which could indicate when the vandalism took place.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the park over the weekend is asked to contact PC Dave Thompson from Peterlee Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
