A MAN is continuing to fight for his life in hospital after an early morning attack in Hartlepool.
The 32-year-old was assaulted in Victoria Road, close to its junction with York Road, in Hartlepool, at around 4am on the morning of Sunday, October 5.
He received head injuries as a result of the attack and remains critically ill in the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.
Police say that investigations into the incident are continuing today, and as part of the inquiries, detectives have asked for the public’s help in trying to trace any witnesses.
Officers have not arrested anyone in connection with the attack.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland police said: “The man is still in a critical condition in hospital with head injuries.
“No arrests have been made at this time and inquiries are ongoing.”
Police and ambulance services were called at 4am on Sunday after receiving a call to say a man had been assaulted in Victoria Road, not far from its junction with York Road.
The victim was taken by ambulance paramedics to hospital.
The area of the attack was designated a crime scene and was cordoned off with police tape for several hours after the incident while officers carried out investigations.
