POLICE and fire chiefs have launched a joint investigation into a caravan blaze.

Two crews from Hartlepool’s Stranton Fire Station were called to a caravan that was well-alight on a grassed area at the bottom of Prospect Way, on the town’s Parkview Industrial Estate.

Fire chiefs described the sight of the twin-axle caravan as a “big ball of fire”.

The incident happened around 6.15pm on Sunday and firefighters had been called by police, who were already on the scene.

A station spokesman said: “The caravan was completely destroyed.

“We used a jet to extinguish it.

“The police were already in attendance when we got there, the caravan was just a big ball of fire.

“The police are investigating but we haven’t managed to talk to witnesses or view any CCTV.”

Firefighters spent 25 minutes in attendance.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101.
