A number of rabbits were saved after firefighters tackled a blaze on an allotment.

Fire crews from Hartlepool’s Stranton Fire Station and one from Billingham dashed to the Rossmere allotments, off Brierton Lane, at around 2.50pm on Monday.

Two sheds, measuring approximately 20ft by 10ft and 13ft by 10ft were destroyed by flames which would be seen by neighbours.

But the brigade managed to save a smaller shed containing a number of rabbits which suffered minor fire damage.

Firefighters believe the casue maye have been accidental and started by a heater.
