RSPCA officers are investigating a brutal incident in which a pet dog was tortured and then set on fire.
Terrier Kenzy escaped from the home of owner Michelle Remmer, in Monach Road, Owton Manor, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Another dog owner told her that he had seen a dog in flames while walking on a farm track at the back of the Manor estate.
Today the RSPCA confirmed it was looking into the horrific crime. A spokeswoman said: “The dog has been identified as Kenzy, who had gone missing from her owner’s home, and our thoughts are with them at this very upsetting time. Her body is now with the RSPCA pending inquiries. At the moment we don’t know whether she was alive or dead when that happened.” Witnesses should call (0300) 1234999 and ask for Inspector Christine Nisbett.”
