A SEARCH was launched after a prisoner serving a sentence for armed robbery went on the run after escaping from a Teesside open prison last night.
Police were on the hunt for Ricky Darren Beech, who escaped from Kirklevington Grange Prison, in Yarm, between 4.45pm and 7.50pm on Thursday, January 23.
As of 11.45am, police offficers said they were no longer searching for the prisoner.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “Police searching for 29-year-old absconder Ricky Beech have arrested a 29-year-old man in Eaglescliffe on suspicion of escaping lawful custody.”
Police said he did not pose a particular risk to the public but advised people not approach him.
The 29-year-old is serving an indeterminate sentence for an armed robbery at a petrol station in Hull, in 2006, when he assaulted a shop assistant.
He was jailed in 2008.
