A would-be thief was cut down to size as he tried to escape with goods from a Hartlepool area.

Police in Hartlepool arrested a man as he tried to make off with a lawnmower although it is not yet clear if he was grassed up.

Hartlepool Neighbourhood Police Team have appealed via social media for the owner of the lawnmower and a bike, which the thief also had with him, to come forward.

The incident happened on Saturday, May 27, when the male was heading out of the Belle Vue area of Hartlepool.

Officer arrested him on suspicion of the theft of a Qualcast lawnmower and a pink Universal Fusion pedal cycle.

Police in the town are now appealing for the owners of the items to get in touch with them.

Anyone who might be missing the lawnmower of bike should contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.
