A VIOLENT teenager who dazzled a police helicopter with a laser has been locked up for 12 months.

The dangerous act was among a host of serious offences committed by the 17-year-old, which included headbutting and kneeing a girl waiting at a bus stop, and robbing a boy of his mobile phone.

His mum sobbed uncontrollably as he was handcuffed and taken away at Hartlepool Youth Court by security staff after being found guilty of robbery and admitting assault and distracting an aircraft pilot.

The troubled teen, who can not be named for legal reasons, was sent to a young offenders’ institution for 12 months and ordered to pay a total of £350 in compensation.
