A CHERISHED family photograph of a man who died after being assaulted in Hartlepool has been released by his grieving family in a bid to gather further information into the attack.

The touching picture – titled ‘Me and My Princess’ – shows much-loved Mark Dixon soundly sleeping with his little five-year-old daughter Ella.

It has been released by his devastated loved ones as part of a renewed police appeal for witnesses to the attack which eventually claimed his life.

Mark, 32, was assaulted in Victoria Road, Hartlepool, close to its junction with York Road, just after 4am on October 5.

The incident left Mark with serious head injuries and he was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he later died.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently on police bail.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police today re-appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward to help with the inquiry.

She said: “Police have spoken to a number of people who were in the area at the time but would still like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity prior to it who have not spoken to police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact officers on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
