TRIBUTES have been left today for attack victim Mark Dixon, who has died in hospital.
The 32-year-old was attacked in Victoria Road, close to its junction with York Road, in Hartlepool town centre, in the early hours of Sunday, October 5.
He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he died on Saturday night.
Floral tributes have been left at the scene and close friend Glenn Maxwell described him as “salt of the earth.”
The 37-year-old, from Clavering, said: “We hoped he would pull through, but nevertheless it hit us all like a ton of bricks when we got the news.
“Everyone is absolutely devastated. His family are grief stricken.”
A fund had been set up for Mark by friends initially hoping to raise £1,000 to help his family cope with bills.
Donations have now gone past £5,000 which fund organisers said may now be used for funeral costs.
