TWO men have been arrested following a suspected arson attack of a flat.

The suspects, aged 30 and 23, have been quizzed by police over the fire in Fulthorpe Avenue, Hartlepool, which happened in the early hours of Sunday.

As reported in Monday’s Mail, residents Terence Weighill, 39, and his partner Mary Odges, 40, escaped unharmed after discovering their front door was on fire.

Fire chiefs said some sort of combustibles had been put against the flat door and set alight.

They said the couple were lucky not to have been killed. They escaped after smoke alarms alerted them.

Cleveland Police said the men have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

They have been bailed until July pending further police inquiries.
