POLICE have warned motorists to be more vigilant and make sure valuables are left out of sight after a series of car thefts.
After a number of reports last week that satellite navigation systems had been stolen from vehicles in the Grampian Drive area in Peterlee, PC Brian Carter sent out a warning to the residents and the thieves.
Cash and other valuables were taken from vehicles in the area before the navigation systems were stolen.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the thefts and are asking motorists to be more careful when leaving their car after a day on the road.
Pc Carter said: “Motorists have to be alert and make sure that anything valuable in the car is either removed or well hidden to avoid anything like this in the future.”
