It ploughed through a garden wall and collided with two bungalows, causing substantial damage to both properties.

No one was believed to be in the house at the time.

Amazingly, no one was hurt, but the driver ran off and police are still trying to trace him or her.

The burglary happened at Granville Avenue overnight, and it is believed that a separate theft from a vehicle on Linden Grove is linked to this incident.

Police confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Hartlepool Volume Crime Team on the non-emergency number 101.
