Police are appealing for the public’s help in investigating two arson attacks.

Detective Sergeant Andy Reynolds, of Peterlee Police’s crime team, is leading an investigation into two arsons attacks which involved vehicles being set on fire.

Both incidents happened on the same day and saw flames spreading to the houses they were parked beside.

Det Sgt Reynolds said: “I am investigating two arsons where vehicles were set on fire on the evening of Wednesday, July 16.

“Both took place around 11.30pm, the first incident being in Waskerley Drive, in Shotton Colliery, where a white Range Rover Sport was set on fire.

“The flames then spread to the attached garage of a house.

“The second incident happened on St Aidan’s Terrace in Trimdon Station where a white Mercedes C Class was set on fire, the flames this time spreading to an adjacent vehicle, caravan and house.

“There is no obvious link between the two offences, but given the timings and similarities we are certainly not ruling it out.”

Witnesses should contact Det Sgt Reynolds on 101.
