A FATHER is on the road to success after scooping a prize for being the region’s most dedicated driver dad.

Kevin Jones, from Gladstone Street, on the Headland, Hartlepool, was given the top title after winning a competition run by Halfords Autocentres.

Kevin’s daughter, Kelly, 28, nominated her dad for the award after reading about the competition in the Mail.

He has been rewarded for his dedication at the wheel with a full set of tyres, worth £400, from Halfords Autocentre, which is based at the Teesbay Retail Park, off Brenda Road.

The competition was launched after research showed dads spend on average the equivalent of one working year behind the wheel ferrying their children around – with a quarter never even receiving so much as a thank you.

Kelly told judges: “He does the school run with my kids every morning but because he’s a foster carer too, he frequently takes various kids to different schools every morning and picks them up every afternoon.

“He’s fantastic.”

Delighted Kevin said: “I’m touched that Kelly put me forward for this competition.

“It’s a great feeling to know that you are appreciated by your family and even the simple things like giving your children a lift can put a huge smile on their faces.”
