BUDDING chefs are being urged to make sure they do not miss the deadline for entering an annual cookery competition.
The Hartlepool Masterchef 2011 contest is being organised by Hartlepool Borough Council in partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education to bring people of different ages closer together.
Organisers say people should get their entries in as they should be received no later than noon on Wednesday, October 12.
The contest is open to both individuals and groups, with groups comprising of two or three people, one of whom must be an adult.
Irene Cross, the council’s neighbourhood development officer in the centre of the town, said: “This is the third time that we have staged the competition and it has always proved really popular.
“The ultimate aim is to bring people of all ages together and encourage them to work together and help each other, forming relationships that they will then be able to take back out into their respective communities.”
The competition will be held in Hartlepool College of Further Education and it is proposed to stage three heats on October 24, 25 and 26 respectively.
The first, second and third-placed competitors in each heat will go through to the grand final on October 28, with the competition offering a first prize of £100, a second prize of £75 and £50 for third.
In the heats, competitors will be expected to cook a single-course balanced and healthy meal, whilst those winning through to the final will be required to add either a starter or dessert to create a two-course meal. They will have two hours to prepare and cook their dishes and all ingredients, up to a maximum cost of £10, will be provided
