A COMPETITION to unearth top entrepreneurial talent has won praise.

UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) say they are delighted with the progress of the Keys To Success campaign which is being run by the Hartlepool Mail in association with UKSE.

Entrants from all walks of life have come forward and Peter Taylor, the area manager for UK Steel Enterprise, said: “It is very exciting to see the response we have had to this competition with entries coming in not only from Hartlepool but around Teesside and beyond. It is already obvious that the judging panel is going to have a difficult task selecting the winner.”

Mr Taylor said UKSE was always confident about the talent in the region.

He added: “The response to the competition and the standard of enquiries has proved that we were right and we are looking forward to more coming forward in the next four weeks. It has been good to see people of all ages represented – from those in their twenties to the fifty-plus entrants – and coming forward with a whole range of interesting ideas for businesses.”

One lucky entrepreneur will win an office in Hub Two at Hartlepool’s Innovation Centre, on the Queens Meadow Business Park, free for a year. The winner will pay no rent, rates, lighting or heating bills for 12 months.

Mr Taylor said: “One of the strengths of the Innovation Centre is the very wide range of businesses that we already have based here – they include engineering, electrical, environmental, pipeline and construction companies as well as those involved in finance, IT and software, care, property, publicity, architecture and confectionary.

“It is a first class environment for businesses not only because our aim is to provide all the facilities and support that a growing company needs but also because the tenants themselves have created a supportive and friendly community even though their individual businesses might be very different.

“We are very proud of our Innovation Centre and the businesses that have chosen to make their home with us and are working hard to create successful companies that will bring jobs and wealth to Hartlepool and the region.”

There’s still time for more people to enter Keys to Success.
