HERE is another chance to see the award-winning students who had their efforts rewarded at a glitzy ceremony.

English Martyrs RC School and Sixth Form College, in Hartlepool’s Catcote Road, held an awards event on Thursday.

Talented students aged from 11-18 all had “fantastic” work recognised as dozens of awards were handed out.

Animation, photography, drama performances and foreign language expertise were all recognised at the red carpet event, held in St Anne’s Hall in the school building.

Mail editor Joy Yates was the guest of honour at the event and handed out awards to more than 50 deserving students.

Darren Stewart, assistant headteacher at the school, gushed with pride as he spoke of the efforts of the students.

He said: “The night perfectly demonstrated the range of achievements by the wide range of talented students we have here in our school community.

“Not only was the event a chance to celebrate the achievements of the students, it was also a fitting way to thank both staff and parents for their dedication and support in nurturing the students and motivating them to be the very best at what they do.”

It was the first time the school had held an Oscars-style event but staff now intend to make it an annual awards evening.
