A DISCOUNT store was targeted in a tea-time raid that saw more than £1,000 being taken.
Police say a thief got away with the “substantial amount of money” after targeting the Poundsaver store, in Brus Corner, Hartlepool.
A 32-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident that took place just after 5pm on Thursday.
He was taken to the town’s Avenue Road police station and is currently being questioned by police, who say they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the theft.
Sergeant Gary Cowan, from Hartlepool Police, said: “We received a call after a man has gone into the Poundsaver store and grabbed a substantial amount of money.
“A 32-year old male was arrested on Friday morning and is currently being detained.”
