The event kicks off at 10am on Saturday with a meet and greet of town vets and firms associated with animals, followed by the canine talent show from noon until 2pm.

Classes include best looking big and small dogs, best fancy dress, the best trick and the best dog of the day.

Most classes cost £1 to enter.

Dave, 48, of Leamington Parade, in Hartlepool, who has trained dogs for 30 years, said: “It will be a really fun event for dogs and their owners.

“There will be a panel of judges who will pick the winners, similar to X-Factor or Britain’s Got Talent, but for dogs.”

Dave is also launching the Dog Positive Training School at Throston Community Centre on Saturday morning from 10am until midday.

He said: “It’s great for dogs of all ages and types.”

A five-week course costs £60, or fees can be paid weekly at a cost of £12. For further details on the Fun Dog Show or the Dog Positive classes, telephone Dave on 07877889329, or telephone (01429) 686158. He can also be contacted by emailing:
