Jack Russell Loui had a lucky escape today after he became trapped between rocks whilst retrieving his ball.

Hartlepool Stanton Fire and Rescue crews were called to the promenade by Newburn Bridge around 1pm to reports of a dog trapped between rocks.

Crew manager John Moore said they were on scene for an hour trying to free the dog which had become lodged after its owner threw a ball which he was trying to retrieve.

He said: "We were called around 1pm today to the promenade by Newburn Bridge after a dog had become stuck between rocks after going to collect a ball his owner that thrown.

"We used hydraulic spreaders to move the rocks far enough apart to open a gap and one of our smaller fire fighters went down the gap and grabbed the dog and pulled it out.

"The dog was fine but a bit distressed."
