FAMILIES are being urged not to miss out on the chance to take part in a new fun orienteering challenge.

Places are still available on Xplorer sessions, which are being organised by Hartlepool Borough Council’s sport and physical activity team in partnership with British Orienteering.

The sessions aim to help people to enjoy the town’s green spaces whilst also providing an opportunity for them to improve their fitness.

Organisers say Xplorer is an outdoor navigational challenge in which people track down a number of location points marked on a map and write down the animal pictures or words they find at each point.

No map reading experience is necessary and sessions have already been held at Ward Jackson Park.

Further sessions will now take place at the following locations and times:

l Tuesday, June 17, from 6pm to 8pm, at Burn Valley Gardens.

l Wednesday, August 13, from 1pm to 3pm, at Summerhill Visitor Centre.

l Tuesday, August 19, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, at Burn Valley Gardens.

Ryan Houghton, sport and physical activity officer with Hartlepool Council, said: “Xplorer is aimed at pre-school and primary school children and their families and involves a healthy mix of physical activity and decision-making.”

Each Xplorer session costs just £4 for a family of four, although both larger and smaller family groups can be catered for too. To book call Ryan Houghton on (01429) 284414, email ryan.houghton@hartlepool.gov.uk or tweet @HBCSport
