A HOUSING group won two accolades at an award ceremony.
East Durham Homes enjoyed a double celebration at an awards ceremony hosted by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust after achieving two accolades for their work around promoting better health for their staff and customers.
The North East Better Health at Work (BHAW) Award was developed in 2009 to give recognition to workplaces which actively promote workplace health.
The housing provider passed the ‘Continuing Excellence’ level of the BHAW Award after building on all the work done to achieve the BHAW Gold Award last year.
East Durham Homes also won a Reaching the Community Award for the good work it does promoting health to its customers.
Recognition was given for a number of initiatives including health promotion and awareness sessions, health MOTs, a walking group, pamper days, gym membership discounts for both staff and customers and partnering with a local company to provide a weekly fruit and vegetable stall for staff.
Geoff Parker, East Durham Homes’ health and safety adviser, said: “I’m delighted we’ve won these awards both in terms of what we’ve put in place for staff and for customers. There’s a real buy in from staff at all levels to promote better health and it’s great we’ve received recognition for this.”
In 2012, 68 businesses in County Durham and Darlington achieved a particular level of the award.
